The OTBL is the first basketball league catered towards the South Asian community. The goal with any sport is to always foster the desire to be physically active and create a competitive culture amongst its players.  This is true with the OTBL but there is a greater purpose for the creation of the league. It is to have our South Asian community which is filled with young, energetic, and talented individuals to unite for the purpose of educating, engaging, and encouraging our youth! The league is structured as follows:

  • Yearly draft for new players

  • 8 teams total

  • 14 game regular season with guaranteed playoffs depending on team ranking

  • Full basketball uniform

  • All games officiated by licenced Toronto referees

  • Video-taped games

  • Box scores and player stats tracked and displayed on league site & access to a dedicated forum

  • All-star weekend festivities (3pt shootout, Dunk-off, Skills Competition, Marquee All-star game)

  • OTSE Awards Night (presentation of player awards)

  • All games with be played at Stephen Leacock Collegiate between 12pm-6pm on Saturdays

  • Various events throughout the year (Guest Speakers, Volleyball Tournament, Luncheons, etc.)

The league allows for the trading of players consistent with league bylaws up until the trade deadline for each respective year. Due to the movement of players, names are not represented on jerseys for practical and economic reasons. Teams are all named based on boroughs and regions within the GTA. This by no means represents where teams play/practice or where certain players must reside from. These names are purely a qualitative attribute. The season begins every fall and new players are welcome to enter the draft!  Feel free to contact any of the admin or drop by on Saturdays to speak to one of our many volunteers if you have any questions.
